Students can attend courses covering both sociological theory and the methods of empirical social research. A special feature of our degree programs is our research-oriented training in both quantitative and qualitative methods.
In addition to theory and methodology, the analysis of structures, mechanisms, and dynamics of social inequality is a third central topic covered in our sociology courses.

| Student council | The student council body at the Department of Sociology (Fachschaftsinitiative) consists of active student members who represent students within the department. Not only do they organize events, but they also actively represent the students' interest when it comes to political matters such as improving your studies and much more. |
| IT services | We have our own IT service that manages software licenses and devices on loan for specific courses, as well as the CIP lab (computer room). |
| Library for Psychology, Education, and Sociology | You are welcome to use the university library and consult their Tips and Tricks for sociology students. |
| Special needs | If you have special needs, contact the central Disability Services as well as your course instrutors before the lecture period begins. |
